The Sawtooth Oak (Quercus acutissima) is a durable tree that offers longevity—quickly maturing to a height of 60 feet. This Oak is grown in USDA zones 5 through 9. The sawtooth prefers well-drained soil and lots of sun. The oak can produce its first crop of acorns in the fifth to sixth growing season. Acorns fall from the middle of September to mid-October. The bitter acorn makes it slightly more desirable to wildlife. The oak’s lustrous green leaves change gracefully in the fall to clear yellow or golden brown. The edges have a zigzag shape, which give the tree its name.
