Upon arrival from the nursery to optimize seedling survival, Flatwood Natives is providing instructions for “Pre-planting Handling of Seedlings” in the event that planting upon arrival is just not possible.
• Do not unpack the bundles when they arrive, place them in a cool dark place, and water frequently to ensure the roots remain moist. Bundles can be stored this way for several days.
• Trees that are not planted within several days should be heeled in (temporary planting of seedlings by covering the roots and lower portions of the stems with moist soil).
All seedlings from Flatwood Natives nursery are hardened prior to delivery to reduce transplanting shock, but the quicker they are planted the better chance your tree will survive and you will achieve hunting success.
